2020- Clearing the Vision

Bet you didn’t expect to hear from me.

Well happy 2020,

I hope this time apart has brought you as much clarity as it did for me.

I owe an explanation to you all, the kindest of souls! My heart was full with the amount of you whom felt the need to reach out through email and DM.

The darkness that began to enter into my once happy blog began to feel almost suffocating. My world was no longer positive, blogging began to feel like a chore. For hours I would brainstorm different strategies of how to hold onto the increasing attention my blog and Pinterest account was receiving.

It consumed and scared me.

One day I just stopped.

I felt a level of disappointment in myself for becoming so consumed by numbers, I needed time to remember why I began my account.

I’m done looking at the viewership, likes and comments.

I’m here for you…. and well me too!

This little blog started as a way to track my personal progress and to document all my thoughts as well as to read yours.

Forgive the lack of working widgets on my blog currently, it’s going to take some time to get back to full working order. Don’t be alarmed if there are a few tweaks to my page too!

If you want to have a looksy at my instagram the link is the big logo icon at the bottom of the page!

Stopping to breath

Hey,

So it’s been a minute huh?

First of all, thank you and thank you again for giving me a minute to drop off the face of the earth and come back to you.

Life is pretty rough right now and I don’t feel motivated to write to you guys when i’m barely making it through the days.

I hope you guys are able to understand what I mean when I say that.

Being positive and uplifting isn’t super easy when your heart is heavy.

This website isn’t to bring people down, it’s my space to be creative and positive! I don’t want to come back and read posts about how dark right now is, I want to forget that in the future.

I’m in Sydney this weekend so hopefully I can get some happy content to you!

Coachella -Arichella period

Hey,

So you know what’s coming.

The queen performed, and I still just can’t and won’t stop raving!

Ariana Grande can do no wrong, in my eyes. Ariana is a leader of power and inspiration for all young women.

Ariana first touched my heart just like many of you back when she began on ‘Victorious’, from there I have been a loyal and loving fan. I’ve been there through her breakout solo career to entering into a whole new realm of artistry.

Now for those of you that don’t know my family is from Manchester and I for many years lived there. I have so much love for the city, that I got my first tattoo in dedication to it. See my post ‘ 2019 Rundown’ for a little peak at it.

So when the Manchester attack happened my love for her grew even more, it’s kind of odd to feel such a personal connection to an artist.

I don’t know why but I feel so in-tuned with the messages her songs have.

But enough about my girl crush lets breakdown that epic performance!!

The outfits!

The show as to be expected was a showstopper! the outfits breath taking and were festival envy chic, i’ve highlighted my top two below!

First up, this outfit caught my eye due to the perfect colour choice that intentionally complemented the theme of her 2018 album ‘Sweetener’.

lilac is hands down the colour of 2019 and I couldn’t be more about it!

Styling this look in very Ari style with the slick back ponytail and knee-high boots, I am absolutely in love with how true to her vibe it is.

As a side note, Ari took part in a tribute to ex-boyfriend Mac Miller while in this outfit. Leaving her looking appropriate angelic for the occasion. The crowd held up peace signs as a sign of love and unity while remembering the rappers and artists lost this past year.

It was a beautiful moment of light in a dark time and gave us chills across the world.

The next outfit I want to discuss is one is by far my favourite… maybe even of all time. I’m a sucker for the sparkle! This outfit fits both the Coachella vibe as well as the show’s! The high boots continued just adding to the ability to let Ari be true to her style, while shining both inside and out! The detailing is insane, leaving many of us anxiously waiting for the arrival of copy- cat designs on ‘Missguided’ I’m sure.

Now that I’ve gone lo-co over the outfits time for me to wrap things up!

The event had so many incredible features, from the graphics to the song choices. Even going as far as to bring back old favourites like ‘Bang Bang’ and ‘Dangerous Woman‘ she could do no wrong. Ari even went full Kanye naming the festival Arichella with full merch available.

Oh and on that note, the merch tent had a ‘7 RINGS ARCHWAY!!! I’ll leave a pic below for you to go as insane as I did!

One last thing … she performed with N- SYNC!

We’ll that’s it from me for now on the incredibleness of Coachella.

I mean Arichella!

Let me know your thoughts!

How im going to get a job at Vogue

Hey,

Weird title I know.

So I am sorry, it’s been a minute since i’ve sat down with you.

Currently, I’m on my two week break from university.

Between working and studying full time it feels like for the first time I can breathe.

This year has been one of a lot of self discovery. Every day I find another question plays on my mind or I feel an urge to do something new, kinda starting to feel like a quarter-life crisis is coming on.

One thing I have found consistent through it all is my two major goals for 2019.

I want to begin writing and I want to move out. Both seem to be moving forward.

So guys, I’ve decided my career goal and drive forward will be

To work at Vogue.

Remember back in January’s post ‘January wrapped up’ where I was so beyond sure I had found what I wanted. I guess that dream has just continued to grow.

Now, i’m not one to not practice what I preach so here I am giving you a few updates on what i’ve done to develop my career goals.

Last week, I put my name forward to intern at Sydney’s Australian Fashion Week!

I’m anxiously awaiting the news of whether I have got it or not!

I have also applied for a Bachelor of Journalism as my current degree will be finished at the end of this year! Yikes another three years of study ahead.

Here is my mini list of goals I have set myself:

  • Get an internship at a fashion magazine
  • Published article in a major publication
  • Move to Melbourne
  • Travel the world and get inspired
  • Have my own office space at my new home
  • Work at Vogue!

So there we have it folks, I feel it’s important for me to document these little milstones and thoughts so hopefully one day looking out of my glass walled office in New York I can say,

“I bloody did it!”

Tell me what your goals are?

Fashion Nova – It’s time to review

Hi Lovers,

It’s been a few days but I’m back!!

‘Fashion Nova’ for those that haven’t yet come across the site, is a fast fashion online store. The girl boss website is marketed at those with curves for days and envy the fashion trends of the Kardashians. Speaking as someone who due to my 5,3 build and hourglass figure struggles to find jeans that fit, I can safely say that ‘FashionNova.com’ is a Godsend!

I have shopped on ‘Fashion Nova’ a few times now and find that although it can be hit or miss.

9 times out of 10 it’s a hit!

I feel with these kinds of sites it is always better to have no expectations and then be pleasantly surprised.

I mean look at these shoes!!

I always find with fast fashion websites, stick to your basics like cute tops, accessories – things that generally should fit and then maybe order one pair of pants to suss the sizing.

Living in Australia the shipping situation is rarely amazing, my orders taking approximately 10 days to arrive.

But then again, we aren’t buying channel now are we?

Below i’ve left two more of my favourite pieces that are currently on site with links, let me know your own review on this company!

For just $29.99 USD

Happy shopping!!

How to write a fashion blog

Hey Lovers,

How are you?

So today we will be discussing how you should write for a fashion blog. This being explored through what content to write, the tone and how to gain interest.

I’m going to start this entry by addressing that as a blogger looking at my stats, I can see the ridiculously high interest for tips for blogging so I will be investing more energy into that!

TIP 1

Blogging is fun, right? People that come to a blog aren’t looking for a political fact-driven piece they are looking to a friend for advice. I think it’s always important to remember that. Write in a way which draws people in and shines a light on your personality, this is something I make a key focus. In a very competitive field, you must stand out and being you is one sure way to do so!

TIP 2

Create a content schedule (yawn), I know you’ve heard this before. Yep it’s pretty important but what I mean by this, is to actually look at the themes that are popular on fellow bloggers. From here see how you could potentially use a successful theme, and do your own spin on it. I always assess SEO, ( Search engine optimisation) as much as I love having my writing freedom, who wants to write what no one will see? Look at the topics that your readers are interested in, fit your niche and are highly searched.

TIP 3

Aesthetics is important, although it may be slightly more important on my blog it is a key factor. By using images, a clear cut simple layout, it allows for your blog to showcase your writing abilities without becoming a confusing mess. This can leaves readers exiting off your page and onto another for the answers you already had. Be exciting, clean, simple and visual.

As always don’t forget to interact with me on my socials! Subscribe to the blog by simply entering your email on the homepage via the side bar option, and comment below to create a discussion.

My truth – Talking about my eating disorder

Hey Lovers,

Today I want to be honest with you.

I struggle, I have and in a small way always will struggle with an eating disorder.

When I was 16 years old, a really popular guy asked me out, and I said no. He then whispered something to a friend who looked at me and laughed. I didn’t know what he said, but as a defence responded with “I heard that”. As I was leaving school a girl stopped me in front of the whole school, she yelled “he says sorry for calling you a fat c… !” I was horrified, embarrassed and within seconds my life changed.

That one sentence changed my life, I never thought someone could impact me in the way it did. I’m pretty strong. I don’t take any crap, but some how this struck me at the heart of my being.

From that day onwards, I instantly stopped eating. I would allow myself 2 nibbles of a snack bar a day. This meaning I had to be very strategic as to when I would have them. I only did this to stop my stomach rowling in class, I also drank a ridiculous amount of water in an attempt to keep myself full.

Dinner time was the worst time of the day, I’d dread the thought of having to sit with my family, I could feel them watching me and tracking how much I ate.

I started throwing out things from the cupboard when I got to school as I knew my mum was tracking all foods. I was so calculated I could have worked for the FBI. I knew what they were thinking, I could even see them count how many peas I ate. It was awful. I made my mum cry every day. nothing is worse than knowing you’re the reason someone is hurting so badly, but being able to stop yourself.

The following year showed a drastic change in my appearance, I lost 30kg and went on a full rampage anytime someone brought up my lack of eating. I didn’t eat recess or lunch once in my 3 years at my senior high school. Even my friends can recall never seeing me eat. My secret highlight of graduating high school was knowing no one would know what I was eating in a day.

I couldn’t stay awake, I couldn’t remember things. I started to realise something was really wrong. I went to the doctor and although he asked if my eating habits had changed, I continued to lie. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism- I was a staggering 40 years under the average age of diagnosis. It was brought on by my lack of eating. This condition is permanent, I’ll have it for the rest of my life.

My ex actually was the one who stopped me. He let me down and was so toxic in many ways, but actually saved me on this important one. I guess I’ll always be grateful for that.

He sat me down one day and said to me; “I love you more than life itself but won’t watch you waste yours. You need to get better or I’ll have to leave, I can’t watch the person I love disappear”

Although we didn’t work out (and for the best!!) I will always appreciate that.

I am in no way okay, over it, and truthfully I think about my weight at all hours of the day, every day.  But I eat. I eat every meal and eat junk food too. I push it to the back of my mind most times and by the way I am a very normal size.

I guess my message is, don’t let anyone have an effect on you through words. Words mean nothing unless you give them the power to. I now have a life long condition that started prematurely, purely because of the words of some random guy in high school. A guy who was mad because I rejected him.

Be kind to yourself and one another
