2020- Clearing the Vision

Bet you didn’t expect to hear from me.

Well happy 2020,

I hope this time apart has brought you as much clarity as it did for me.

I owe an explanation to you all, the kindest of souls! My heart was full with the amount of you whom felt the need to reach out through email and DM.

The darkness that began to enter into my once happy blog began to feel almost suffocating. My world was no longer positive, blogging began to feel like a chore. For hours I would brainstorm different strategies of how to hold onto the increasing attention my blog and Pinterest account was receiving.

It consumed and scared me.

One day I just stopped.

I felt a level of disappointment in myself for becoming so consumed by numbers, I needed time to remember why I began my account.

I’m done looking at the viewership, likes and comments.

I’m here for you…. and well me too!

This little blog started as a way to track my personal progress and to document all my thoughts as well as to read yours.

Forgive the lack of working widgets on my blog currently, it’s going to take some time to get back to full working order. Don’t be alarmed if there are a few tweaks to my page too!

If you want to have a looksy at my instagram the link is the big logo icon at the bottom of the page!

Sitting down with blogger royalty www.renegade7x.com

Hey Lovers,

Today I have something to share that has been in the works for a while now!

Drum roll please….

For those of you that don’t belong to her over 10,000 strong subscribers’ viewership on WordPress alone, Natalia is the writer behind http://renegade7x.com/

If you love fashion, travel, uncut realness and some pretty awesome reviews…. well Nat is the girl for you.

I have had the pleasure of creating some exciting content with this writing inspiration myself!

I have spent the last few weeks speaking with this blogging Queen and asked if  I could interview her.

Nat has been kind enough to sit down and share her knowledge, thoughts and give us bloggers just a little sneak peek behind the curtain of renegade7x.com.

As many of you know, along with my fashion, travel and advice posts I love to write blogging tips. Having the opportunity to gain some insight from a well-established blogger and writer has been something I’m very grateful for.

Beginning on Tumblr over six years ago, Nat transferred to wordpress.com.  Humble with her success, Nat lives in one of the World’s fashion capitals Prague! I first came across Nat when I saw her post “2019 is the worst and it’s been just 12 days!” From there I was hooked, I have been eagerly awaiting each and every post since! I’m sure you’ll find so too!

Her realness, relatability and writing skills were and continue to be just so enticing. Nat is a writer few can compare to, she writes from the heart and is so engaging you can feel like she is talking directly to you over a coffee.

It’s funny to me that many bloggers are writers that engross you more than a book ever can. (Plus the bonus of getting to talk to them directly couldn’t be cooler.)

Bloggers helping and sharing with other bloggers is something that is incredibly special. This forum allows us to connect with other likeminded people. One thing that took me by surprise, is that so many of Nat’s responses were the same as my own. So, from one Australian blogger and one Slovakian blogger we thank you for being a part of our community. Please feel free to share your own responses below, we’d love to hear from you!

Here is our interview below:

1 – what’s something people don’t know about you?

When I was 2 years old me and my parents and grandma moved to New Jersey from Slovakia. My first english words were “grandma where’s my puppy?

2- How long have you been blogging?

I started in May 2013 out of pure boredom and curiosity. I created my tumblr blog and started exploring the blogger world. My blogs main topic changed so much over the years just as my interests changed. I created my WordPress blog to share more articulated articles about my life in 2018 – so really I’m still a blogger newbie.

3- When did and what made you gain a blog following?

I believe my tumblr blog got the biggest boost because of youtubers Dan and Phil (or Danisnotonfire and AmazingPhil back then) I shared small comments, edited some pictures and people from youtube fandom seemed to enjoy my stuff and I gained thousands of followers seemingly overnight.

About my renegade7x website I believe it was just few months after I started blogging on WordPress. I kept it real. I wrote stuff that was hard to type and the response I got was heartwarming. I wrote about my depression, anxiety, self harm, psychiatric sessions and I kept it as rough as reality was. So many people could relate but couldn’t voice it like I did and that’s what brought attention to my writing.

4- what’s your go to fashion piece in your wardrobe?

I have this one black and white knitted cardigan that I had for ages and it’s so stretched now but I just can’t let it go as it looks great with everything I own.

5- who’s your fashion icon?

Rihanna. She’s truly a fashion icon because of how she wears herself. People joke around that and item of clothing is ugly until Rihanna decides it’s not – and that’s just so true. She could put whatever on and still look fabulous because of her admirable level of confidence I aspire to have one day.

6- what’s one word to describe you?

7- what actress would play you in a movie?

I don’t want to sound too cocky but I’m gonna go with my celebrity crush Lily James. Love the shape of her.

8- where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I’m in my New Yorks apartment with this beautiful view over the city. I’m wearing silk pajamas and drinking coffee. My laptop is opened and my succesful website is on as I’m finishing my lattes article. I just published my book alongside with my new fashion line.Life is great. Everything I do now is in order to get that coffee in 10 years.

9- where do you want to travel next?

Switzerland. I have this scratch off map of the world and I have Europe pretty much traveled but I’m missing

Switzerland. Hope to fix that this year.

10- what’s your favourite blog topic?

It’s so natural for me to write reviews. It’s relaxing. But I find it more challenging to write something personal, some reflection. I love that feeling when I get new idea and I just have to pour it all down in one sitting and I get to publish it right away for world to see.

11- top tip to new bloggers?

Don’t focus on the numbers. I know it’s exciting to see your audience grow but don’t let it discourage you if the results are not according to your expectations. Take your time and focus on the content instead. Enjoy every struggling minute of writing

I hope you enjoyed today’s post as much as we loved creating it!

Special thank you to Nat for all her time and inspiration.

All my love,

How to be a Fashion Blogger

Hey Lovers,

So you want to become a fashion blogger huh?

Well here is my how to guide on how to get started.

First thing’s first, what is your drive?

This is going to be at the core of your blog, your motivation to keep going and your vision for the future. So think about it and then think a little harder again.

Mine is to grow my experience as a writer to one day work professionally and gain and understanding behind running a site.

This next point I know you know. FIND YOUR COMMUNITY – for more on this read my ‘Finding your blogging community’ article. You need to understand and produce for your audience and their needs. If 90% of your viewership lives in the UK, when a major event relating to the UK comes up, be sure to write about it.

Have an understanding of SEO and other techy things. Now yes, it’s a pain and takes time but there is no way your going to grow a community without understanding the importance of this. So, get googling and watching those YouTube videos.

Photos, photos and more photos. Get an understanding of aesthetics and how to enhance them. Look up some blogs and get inspo from them, see what’s working and what’s not ans build from there. As much as I love reading, blogs are a place to write but do require visual aids. Imagine reading about ‘New York Fashion Week’ and seeing no photos – that level of creativity is hard to visualise alone.

Lastly, to become a fashion blogger be sure to comment opinions on upcoming trends, fashion shows, celebrity Collab’s and share on ALL platforms of media in particular the hidden gem ‘Pinterest.’

Confessions of a retail worker

Hey Lovers,

Today I’m venting and letting you in on the inside conversations of retail workers!!

Unfortunately, blogging is not my full time job…. yet so retail is my day job.

Working in this industry exposes you to people whom you may not choose to interact with!

Alot of people probably don’t know how annoying the things they do and say trigger us, but the truth is you irritate the HELL out of us!!

So lovers if you’re a fellow retailer – relate hard and enjoy this and if you’re not here is a sneak peak into our world.

  1. Clicking – Do not, I repeat Do Not use any of the follow techniques to attract my attention. Snapping, clicking, clapping or and or any other action you may use to attract attention that is commonly used on animals. It’s plain rude, and well, instantly makes me disinterested in helping you.
  2. Hangers – Whether it’s in the changing room or at the cash point, we HATE when you leave hangers or take them off for us. Obviously, thanks for trying to help but it’s actually slowing us down. Hangers are used to flip the clothes while scanning, so you slow the process if we need to scramble around for tags. Susan, it won’t make me any quicker – I know you’re in a rush hun! Onto leaving hangers in the fitting rooms: This is an absolute pet hate – if you’re given a number that states how many garments you take into the changing room, why on earth do you leave them in there? What would the purpose of the number be? So, therefore, leaving the hangers in there and dumping a pile of seven dresses on the fitting room counter is a pain in the ass and slows down the next person coming into that change room as I now need to go clear it out for you!
  3. ‘It must be free!’ – Dear God you must have a death wish! Do not ever say this to a sales assistant, your joke is the same one we’ve heard 1000 times before, no exaggeration.
  4. ‘I’m in a bit of a rush’ – Now, I never understand why people say that to me. What impact is that suppose to make? I do not process sales slowly for fun, in fact, I try to get you through as quickly as possible. So, when hit with this little line nothing makes me slower. If you’re in a rush plain and simple don’t go shopping.
  5. Look at the clock – Now, this is a big one. Look at the clock ladies and gentlemen. If it is five minutes till a store closes…. DO NOT GO IN! Be considerate, look at the workers. These kids are in college or high school, they’ve been ready to serve you from 9am till 5 pm sometimes even later. After work, they need to go home to finish an assignment before doing it all again. What alot of people don’t understand is that when they stay past 5pm – we don’t get paid anymore. we are paid till close, not till Simon decides he might go home.

That was for sure a major rant but I think sometimes that everyone needs to work a month in retail to understand what it’s like.

Hope all my fellow retailers make it through another week of madness!

How to sell yourself as a Fashion Blogger

So you’re wondering why you aren’t cutting it with the bomb pictures you see the likes of Shani and Jaclyn are throwing out on the gram?

We’ll here are some super easy poses and tools to get you started!

  • Camera – especially those with Portrait mode
  • Confidence – Non – negotiable
  • Sunglasses – Instant coolness
  • A coffee cup – are we millennials if we aren’t fuelled by it?

Just kidding on a few of those guys! – Here are a few from my own account

Okay lets get down to it!

Pose like you know you’re a 10. Confidence can be seen through a photo so pose like you have a $100,000 sponsorship and it will come through in the photo.

Bright images are more aesthetically pleasing – the brighter and more colourful an image the more pleasing it is on the gram. Weird I know – we are creatures that like Aesthetically nice things – Well I mean read the name of the blog!

Now my final tip is actually the hack of all hacks – This is in no way uncovering any secrets or encouraging you to take part. The hack instagramers use is ‘Facetune’ – this app lets you enhance, brighten and alter an image. It has airbrush features that of course will give you that instagram glow but please use with caution and remeber ……… INSTAGRAM ISN’T REAL.

I hope this gave you a few ideas and insight into the instagram hacks our favs use!

How to style by Pinterest

Hi Lovers,

Today i’m letting you in on my style plan.

Every season I sit down, get out my phone, and do the same thing to ensure I can remain fashionable all season long.

Pinterest my loves is key!!

Start by creating a board and giving the board a title – I usually just write the season and the year…. creative I know!

From here I jump onto the browse page and look at all the different trends that are up! Living in Australia, we generally get everything six months after the U.S and U.k! So by going on Pinterest, I get to pretty much see a preview of what will be coming to stores in a few months.

From here, once my board has a reasonable amount of pictures I’ll jump on sites such as ‘Missguided’, ‘Top-Shop’ etc and start buying their on sale items that are dupes for those I have on my Pinterest board! – They’re on sale as they are at the end of the season overseas.

Obviously, this can be reversed for those of you, not in Australia! So wanting swimwear for Summer or a summer dresses? Jump onto some aussie websites for some real steals. Eng ‘Princess Polly’ and ‘Showpo’

Let me know what you’re Pinterest are so I can give it a look!

All my love,

Aesthetically Basic

Don’t forget to click the Pinterest icon on the homepage to see my own account and outfits!!
